A Creative Journey Rooted in Heritage

Born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Jane Dugan (Janie) grew up surrounded by poetry, creativity, and the enduring voice of her maternal grandmother, Rosa Bateman-McGee. Rosa’s 1950s self-published poetry book, Songs for Sighs, ignited a lifelong dream in Janie to become a visual and literary artist. In 2010, Janie honoured that legacy by republishing her grandmother’s work, enriched with her own photographs and illustrations—a symbolic first step in her creative journey.

Learning from the Masters and the Unexpected

Janie’s path in art has been shaped by both planned mentorships and serendipitous meetings. While living in Windsor, Ontario, she studied under artist Robert Bishop, whose guidance helped refine her technique and artistic voice. In 2019, she attended a Masterclass with Canadian icon Robert Bateman in Victoria, BC—an unforgettable experience filled with stories and inspiration from a life immersed in the natural world. These influences continue to inform Janie’s unique visual ethos—one that balances dreamlike expression with real-world themes.

Art With Purpose and Passion

Jane’s artistic practice is deeply personal and socially aware. Her works explore environmental themes, climate change, and social justice, calling viewers to reflect, care, and connect. Her use of flowing strokes and symbolic elements blend beauty with message. Janie paints not only what she dreams—but also what she feels must be seen. She believes art should uplift, inspire change, and most of all, make us pause.

Collections That Tell Stories

Each painting in Jane Dugan’s portfolio is part of a larger narrative. Her collections are designed to move, motivate, and connect with audiences around the world. From quiet forests to powerful abstracts, her pieces reflect a rare mix of vision and voice.
